New Durham Public Library Selects Koha
ATHENS, OH--August 11, 2008-- LibLime, the leader in open-source solutions for libraries, announced today that the New Durham Public Library in New Hampshire has selected a Koha Classic hosted solution for their next integrated library system.
New Durham Public Library's collection will be hosted off site at
one of LibLime's secure data centers. The Library has also contracted
with LibLime for data migration and support on their Koha system.
"I
was attracted to Koha initially because it's open source. (I've got
four computers running Ubuntu here!)," says Library Director Max Crowe.
"I
actually installed Koha myself on my desktop, so I was able to get a
feel for it," Max explains. "I briefly flirted with the idea of just
doing it all myself, but it became apparent pretty quickly that it was
going to be a more cost-effective use of my time to contract out to
LibLime."
Though small, the library sees a dramatic increase in
visitors each summer--as New Durham is second home to many Bostonians.
Koha will offer the library a significant upgrade from their previous
system-- including an impressive new OPAC.
Max has this to say to other directors considering a move to Koha:
"Koha
is a grand innovation for a small library. It gives you all the 'toys'
that the big kids have, but is manageable and affordable. Plus, if
you're a techie, you can install it yourself and kick the wheels a
little. What's not to love?"

About Koha
Since it was first put into production in early 2000, Koha has enabled new realities of open access, affordability, and free innovation for hundreds of libraries around the world. Koha has lived up to its name, which means ‘Gift’ in the Maori language of New Zealand. From the outset, many libraries understood the power of this gift. They downloaded it, they installed it, they changed it, and they contributed their solutions back to the library community.
