Fort Wayne Museum of Art Selects Koha
ATHENS, OH and FORT WAYNE, IN--July 17, 2008-- LibLime, the leader in open-source solutions for libraries, and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Indiana announced today that The Edward D. Auer Memorial Library has selected a Koha Classic hosted solution for their integrated library system.
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art's installation will be hosted off-site
at one of LibLime's secure data centers. The Library has also
contracted with LibLime for support on their Koha system.
As
one of the Midwest’s most dynamic art museums, the Fort Wayne Museum of
Art is renowned for its art, architecture, and ambiance. The Fort Wayne
Museum of Art is committed to collecting, preserving, presenting and
interpreting American art and engaging its audiences. Over 90,000
visitors each year enjoy the stellar exhibitions, permanent collection
and full menu of educational programs for children and adults.
"I
first heard about Koha when I was talking to other librarians about our
decision to automate our collection. It was recommended to me by
friends and colleges across the country," says Anne Hall, Associate
Librarian for the Museum.
She continues: "As I started to do
my own research and use demos from a number of different catalogs, I
liked Koha the best. This is all before I had looked into it being
open source."
"It became an added bonus that it was open source
and that we can add features and customize features that we feel we
need. It is also very cost-effective for a nonprofit museum!" Anne
adds.
Prior to Koha, the Edward D. Auer Memorial Library was
not automated and the library has already begun the process of
cataloging their records into Koha.
"Cataloging in Koha is
quite user friendly so we have been able to enter items fairly
quickly!" says Anne. "As a librarian, I am really excited that we can
customize features so easily. Being a museum library, we do not just
circulate books and AV items and we have been able to make categories
to support those items. We can also customize our circulation periods
for our different user groups."
The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is
one of three museums across the U.S. to choose a Koha solution through
LibLime in the last three months.
About The Edward D. Auer Memorial Library
The
Edward D. Auer Memorial Library in the Fort Wayne Museum of Art is a
collection of around 7,000. As part of a current museum expansion, the
library will be moving to a bigger space within the museum as well as
expanding its collection to around 18,000. The library will also be
working closely with the new Education Center.
About Koha
Since
it was first put into production in early 2000, Koha has enabled new
realities of open access, affordability, and free innovation for
hundreds of libraries around the world. Koha has lived up to its name,
which means ‘Gift’ in the Maori language of New Zealand. From the
outset, many libraries understood the power of this gift. They
downloaded it, they installed it, they changed it, and they contributed
their solutions back to the library community.
